Isolation Ideas

the more we think about isolation the more we like it, however isolation is quite a negative thing so if we do choose to show that then we really need a harsh contrast with berkoff's comedy.

Isolation

a state of separation between persons or groups

a feeling of being disliked and alone

the act of isolating something; setting something apart from others

(psychiatry) a defense mechanism in which memory of an unacceptable act or impulse is separated from the emotion originally associated with it

a country's withdrawal from international politics; "he opposed a policy of American isolation"

Ideas

Starting to develop more ideas now and looking into isolation, me and joanna really liked the fact that Hockney's painting stood out as isolation because it just looked so much that audience were not being invited in to it as much as other paintings,

Durm and strang

This is our final piece of Berkoff workshop time then we move on to the real thing!!! the other day we watched "EAST" Which was AMAZINGGGGGG! loved the physicality or the characters and the way it is kept up throgh out it all is amazing! i have watched some clips on line but great that we watched it all the way through! I have also been reading some of Berkoffs plays and looking at how he scripts them, there done different to other scripts these scripts feel as if how he says it he just writes it!

Durm and Strang is my last piece of workshop, and its safe to say this one is great as well im finding the monologue parts alot harder just revising lines etc but its good to be challenging different areas of berkoff.

Old People Script

Old People

We have been given the task of creating a piece of drama int he style of Berkoff and lookign at his work and taking from our work shops what we have learnt and crafting our own mini play on Old People, i Learnt alot from this piece like how to make it upbeat with the tempation to be slow because we are "old" and how to keep my movements tight even if i was an old person.

children

Today we have started doing a children's playground in the style of Berkoff. I'm loveing this piece so much you really can put 100 % effort into your character. I'm finding the way which you have to think to find all those old sterotypes of when you were a child and how you really have to annalyse the things that the character does with there mimed physical movements. Looking forward to adding things to our piece!!

Building Character

Today we have started building our character's up Berkoff style. We are doing numerous Berkoff workshops to help us achieve the level. Today we thought or a stereotyped person which we could overly mimick ... so mind was an Essex girl, long blonde hair and very pouty we would have three movements that got us into that role, and we would introduce ourselevs like this...

"Katie, 25, Beautican Hunny! as we say these words we produce actions witch also symbolize our character, this really helped expressing my character more.

here is a list of things i find interesting and look at the paining in a diffent way:

use of seats
blocking audience
the curtain - is this a performing curtain orrr use as a curtain for a hospital?
Mental Home
visisting an old family friend
argument in the family
waiting on time
isolation from the truth

these are my main ideas when i think about this piece! im going to discuss with my group about how we can develop ideas

David Hockney

I decided to look into David Hockney a bit more and have a look at his paintings and see what his others portray.

I find his paintings very distancing i feel as if they are isolating me and the audience from something or someoene, but i like it i like the way that the paintings have a certain mood about them. I also like the two people being separate even if there in the same picture they both have a different story together!

Stimulus

We have been given our stimulus for both our pieces now and it is a painting by David Hockney
Its called "Shirley Goldfarb and Gregory Masurosky"

Im unsure what to make of the painting at the moment i find it quite over powering with all the different angles it has yet im very curious to find out what the meaning is.

Berkoff Style

Berkoff plays are very physical and he really wants you to use all your body to express your character. The next few weeks we will be working on how to create and build up our character and make sure we put 100% into it.

I think this helps to show how physical Berkoff's plays are performed. This is a scene from his play called "East" its based in the East End of London and hear the characters are currently creating a motorbike using only there bodies. I really like the way the character addresses the audience and tells them he is the Harley Davidson !!
